Fashion Week Review: Fall '09 part III

The final post from New York fashion week is here! In this post reviews for Monique Lhuillier, Badgley Mischka, Doo.Ri, J. Mendel, Catherine Malandrino, Milly, Narciso Rodriguez, Rodarte, and Zac Posen. My favorites were Doo.Ri who brought stockings to the level of artform and Catherine Malandrino who's imagination took a Daliesque turn.

Monique Lhuillier
Monique Lhuillier decided to spice up the usual offerings with what looks like a ripped body suit that peaks from under every gown. This is particularly striking against the marble backdrop.

Badgley Mischka
There was plenty of variety on display at the Badgley Mischka show. Sure there were the long gowns we've come to expect from the duo, but there was also day wear like the black dress with the tall boots below, and silky cocktail dresses.

Milly
Mini dresses and skirts were the predominant theme in Milly's collection. My favorite is the white dress with a black belt and black tights, great for both summer and fall.

Doo.Ri
The stockings alone in Doo.Ri's collection deserve a blog entry, the pattern reminds me of a beautiful winter garden. The metallic dresses and silk skirts were just an added benefit. I just wish the models didn't look so morbid.

J.Mendel
Another designer trying to diversify is J.Mendel. There was fur and gowns for red carpet events, complete with bow accents, but a large part of the collection were day and cocktail dresses like the one below.

Catherine Malandrino
There is something very surrealist about this collection from Catherine Malandrino. What at first glance looks like a simple black draped dress has a bird woven in. A gray dress is transformed by a hand sneaking over the shoulder.

Zac Posen
I wasn't crazy about Zac Posen's collection this season. While I usually love the gowns that he creates, this season nothing caught my eye. I did like the suit that opened the show and the black blazer and colorful skirt whose print looked incredibly similar to the one Marc Jacobs used in his collection reviewed here.

Narciso Rodriguez
Nothing beats the perfect fit of a Narciso Rodriguez outfit, remember Kate Winslet at the SAG awards? My favorite pieces incorporated bold colors like the purple dress below.

Rodarte
Rodarte is starting to have a following in young hollywood. Both Natalie Portman and Reese Witherspoon wore Rodarte at this years Oscars (Oscar post here). Each dress at the Rodarte show was a collage of different shapes, colors, and textures. Every mini dress was paired with a pair of thigh high leather boots. I love the lighter, pastel one :)
