Episode 3: Surfers + Avant-garde
This is the first time the designers had to work in teams. It's interesting how Mitchell's whole plan was not to do any work. His lucky partner? Ra'mon! The challenge started out with creating a surfer look. I couldn't believe that I was on that same Santa Monica beach just two weeks ago, makes me wish I was there now :) After the paired off designers worked on their surfer look the surprise came: create an avant-garde look as well. I wasn't impressed by any of the avant-garde looks. I liked Ra'mon's dress but there was nothing avant-garde about it.
Winners: It was between Irina and Johnny and Ra'mon and Mitchell. In the end it was Ra'mon's avant-garde design that wowed the judges and he won.
Losers: In an ironic twist of fate Mitchell's strategy of doing nothing landed him back in the same place, in the bottom. It was between him and Nicolas and Gordana's designs whose avant-garde design was a bit tasteless. Luckily this time Mitchell finally got the boot.
Episode 2: the Pregnancy challenge
The challenge - to create a look for the very pregnant Rebecca Romijn. As expected there were lot of baby doll dresses, my fave among them being Irina's again, probably because I love the sea green color palette. Hopefully she can go beyond being just safe and win a challenge. Christopher made a great burgundy top with neckline details with tights.
Winners: Louise, Althea and Shirin were at the top. Louise's dress looked too much like a negligee but it had great detail and the multiple layers created a great effect. Shirin also made a dress, hers had beautiful gathering detail around the waist and she also made a fantastic black coat. Althea's gown's neckline was too deep so Shirin walked away a winner.
Losers: Conceptual designer Malvin and Mitchell lover of all nude colors were at the bottom. In the end Malvin's egg concept was too much and Mitchell's sloppy design squeaked through.

Episode 1: Red Carpet look
Since the show is now in LA it only makes sense that the first challenge was a red carpet challenge. Each designer was to create a look for any red carpet event, whether it be Oscars, Grammy's, or otherwise. Most designers played it safe, with lots of gowns and cocktail dresses coming down the runway. Johnny nearly had a breakdown but it only made him stronger. Guest judge Lindsay Lohan had a perpetually confused look on her face as she was watching the dresses glide by. Personally I loved Irina's lacy design but she wasn't in the top three.
Winner: It was between Johnny red voluminous gown, Christopher's edgy prom dress, and Ra'mon-Lawrence's classic creation. In the end Christopher's 50's style dress won over the judges and I completely agree.
Loser: It was between Ari's bubble like silver mini and the nude dress by Mitchell. Though I was really rooting for Ari because though strange her creation showed some variety and I could actually see someone wearing to the MTV awards, she was asked to leave.

Great re-cap! So far Ra'mon and Christopher are my favorites. I'm so glad Mitchell finally got the boot... he really annoyed me and his designs gave me a headache. I agree with you though... I don't think any of the designers really nailed and avant-garde look (although I'm pretty sure Malvin would have done a good job with this... I also dont think he should have gotten booted this early on).
