Project Runway Recap: Episode 7

There is always a challenge to see whether the designers can make something commercially successful and that's what this week's Project Runway was all about. Macy's line INC line was looking to add something blue to it's collection. As usual each designer had to pitch ideas for two looks with five contestants chosen to make the clothes while partnering up with another designer. Althea, Irina, Christopher, Carol Hannah and Louise were the lucky chosen ones.

Althea's idea was to create a suit and a high waisted pants look. She partnered up with Logan and they did an ok job, which reflected their status in the middle of the pack. The navy suit idea was great, but the skirt was way too short, and the pants did not fit that well though I could clearly see INC having such a pair as part of their collection.

Irina partnered up with Gordana creating a flowy patterned dress and work outfit with an aqua blouse. The judges were impressed by the dresses neckline and that Irina added the blue tints to the fabric. Heidi liked the blouse Gordana made as well. Of everything that came down the runway this was my favorite, but that's only because it was a little less boring than the rest.

Christopher and Epperson were not team players and it showed. Each went to Mood, picked a fabric, never thinking if the two designs work well together. The result was a teal silky blouse with too much fabric at the neckline and a shirt dress made of a shiny fabric that as one of the judges put it looked like a table cloth. It's a shame because both Chris and Epperson are strong designers.

Carol Hannah partnered with Shirin and was very confident going into the challenge. Her two looks both had teal jersey tops, one paired with tights and a belt, one paired with a tight pencil skirt. I could see INC carrying these pieces but they did look very low end.

Louise and Nicolas made to dresses that stood out for all the wrong reasons. Both were blue A-line dresses with humongous ruffles in the front. One of the dresses even had a bow on the back.

Winners: Irina and Gordana shared the top with Carol Hannah and Shirin. In the end Irina's dress was announced the winner but not before Gordana complained that Irina didn't give her much direction.

Losers: Louisa and Nicolas shared the bottom with Christopher and Epperson. Poor Christopher was crying, but in the end it was Louisa that was asked to leave. As Heidi put it, Nicolas was very lucky that he had immunity this week.
