Fashion Matches: Best Finds from This Week's Arrivals

This week I'm cutting straight to the chase, here are the pieces that stood out:

Alexander Wang's Goddess jersey dress is my favorite this week. Michelle Williams wore it months ago to the screening of her movie Synecdoche. The dress is modern, and the draping gives it a very feminine feel. I would love to have this dress in my closet, it's perfect for either a special occasion or a night out with friends!

Speaking of going out partying here's a not so ordinary black mini skirt.

Maxi dresses made a splash last year and ones by Gypsy 05 were a favorite among celebs - Hayden Panettiere, Lauren Conrad, Paris Hilton, Kate Hudson . In fact I'd be hard pressed to find a star that didn't have at least one. Not only is it stylish but it's also organic! When shopping and helping the environment combine you know its a winner :) The latest Gypsy 05 maxi dresses are also rocking the ombre trend.

Another celeb fave is Love Quotes scarves. I know this is technically not a new arrival but the scarves have arrived at blueheavenboutique.com in 40 different colors! Leighton Meester is wearing a light grey one. A scarf adds just the right touch to an outfit and Love Quotes scarves feel fantastic against the skin, plus 10% of profits go to charity so you can feel good about yourself :)

"The City" Fashion Inspired Recap

The episode might as well have been called Adam and Allie part II.

It starts off with Whitney inviting Olivia to a gallery opening that Jay and Adam are working on. Immediately Whitney starts rambling about the Adam and Allie situation, trying her best to set up the next scenes, when Olivia cuts her off and tells her that's too much information for her to be hearing! Though I now have greater respect for Olivia, she clearly didn't get the memo that she's this show's equivalent of Whitney from the Hills, and her job is to listen to Whitney and say "wow" and "what do you think you're going to do".

At the art gallery opening Catarina, the girl who allegedly kissed Adam, does what any good girl would do and embarrasses Allie by saying her boyfriend is an ass, making Allie cry in the process. Another disturbing fact: the whole time Catarina was saying how bad she felt, she looked like she was smiling. Adam, the perfect gentleman, tries to console Allie as she leaves the gallery in tears, and even sacrifices his jacket so that she's not cold. The more I think about it, Adam is a perfect boyfriend, if you ignore the whole making out with other girls thing ;)

As Whitney explores the possibility of Jay being just like Adam in the cheating department, Adam and Allie have a heart to heart at Merc bar, and Allie resigns herself to believing Adam. The couple walks out holding hands while "Breaking the Girl" plays in the background...ironic much?

Now on to the fashion...

Whitney is embracing the bohemian look more and more as the episodes go by. She's sporting a headband again and a peasant top during a scene with Jay. Joie has some pretty ones this season.

Joie Signe Smocked Top $194 now on sale for $135.80
update: sold out at shopbop but still available for $194 on tobi.com

Allie is the complete opposite. At the art gallery she's wearing a sleek black dress that sparkles in the night. This is a similar mini from Velvet.

SAG Awards Fashion!

If beige was the theme of the Golden Globes then color has taken over the Screen Actors Guild awards. Kate Winslet was wearing a royal blue stunner, Christina Applegate wore emerald green, and several actresses chose red, including Diane Lane, Jane Krakowski, and Claire Danes, and my Mad Men fave Christina Hendrick.

I rarely get excited about a simple black dress but Penelope Cruz was my favorite in her Alaia gown. On the other end of the spectrum Taraji Henson wore a white Herve Leroux. There were no disasters but American Ferrera chose a dress that did nothing for her curvy figure. Angelina Jolie said she chooses her dresses based on how comfortable they are...hopefully that doesn't mean she'll only be wearing flowing, shapeless Max Azria dresses from now on.

Let me know who you thought was best and worst :)

Simply Stunning!

Penelope Cruz in Alaia

Taraji Henson in Herve Leroux

Kate Winslet in an absolutely perfectly fitting dress by Narciso Rodriguez

Runners up...

Anne Hathaway in Azzaro

Claire Danes in Nina Ricci

Eva Longoria Parker in Jenny Packham

Christina Hendricks

Teri Hatcher in Monique Lhuillier

Less than perfect

America Ferrera in Vera Wang

Angelina Jolie in Max Azria

Fashion Matches: Best Finds from This Week's Arrivals

Another week has passed and with it another week of reminders that I live in freezing NYC and won't be able to wear any summer clothes for a few months. On that note here are my fave discoveries from this week :)

With so many striped shirts out there it's hard to find one that catches your eye but I've managed :) This Sonia Rykiel sweater looks like a flashback to another era, I'm thinking the 60's, complete with a red trim around the neckline. Both Nicole Richie and Gwenyth Paltrow have been seen wearing the brand.

I don't have a good reason for liking this cargo jacket from Joie, but I do. When paired with jeans it creates a look that's stylish and effortless at the same time. I can picture myself wearing it to the movies or a bbq...

Diane von Furstenberg is the queen for wrap dresses, but here Nanette Lepore gives her own spin to this tried and true design. As usual Nanette adds feminine touches, in this case ruffles, to the dress.

Want to feel like Cleopatra for a day? Then these are the earrings for you!

The City Recap: Fashion Drama

While last week's episode concentrated on Jay's commitment problems, this week we've moved on to his roommate. Adam's girlfriend Allie is out of town, and naturally this means a guys night out is in order. The boys end up at Cain, and in the midst of being distracted by the hot semi naked dancers, two girls catch Adams eye, conveniently already miked and ready to start drama. And this is where I start to feel like a lawyer: allegedly the girls end up at Adam's apartment, and allegedly Adam kisses one of the girls. Naturally this information comes back full circle to Allie, but not before Whitney warns Jay who warns Adam (yes it’s a broken telephone). Adam confesses to doing nothing before Allie could bring anything up. After another round of he said/she said and a crying Allie, Adam promises he never wants to see Allie cry, something I'm pretty sure he won't live up to considering previews for next week’s episode.

Plaid is still all the rage on "The City", seen on Whitney paired with turquoise earrings. Here are some varieties in different price ranges :)

Elizabeth & James 'Cohen' Dip Dye Shirt $245

My favorite part of the episode by far though is Olivia's conversation with her cousin Nevin as they go buying her artwork. Nevin actually says he doesn't want to be jobless and go out for drinks on 2pm on a Friday. As this has been a personal goal of mine ever since I started working, I take personal offence :) My fave look on Olivia this episode was when she paired a loose fitting t-shirt with a black mini skirt. Here's my version of the outfit:

KAIN Label Pocket Tee $85

Elizabeth & James Wool Skirt $235 on sale for $176.25

Kristen Stewart's and Taylor Swift's French Connection!

Seems like these past few months French Connection has surged in popularity among young celebs. And the good news is that two of my favorite looks, seen on Kristen and Taylor are on sale now!

Couldn't resist putting up a pic with some eye candy :)
Kristen Stewart chose the "Fast Jack" plaid mini dress promoting Twilight on Much Music in Toronto. She paired the dress with a Chanel necklace and red pumps. I love that the dress has pockets.

"Fast Jack" Dress $168 now $100.80!
update: the dress is sold out on Dillard's but if you're in the Miami area there's a French Connection on Lincoln Road that has this dress in two colors and several sizes are left!

Joe Jonas may have broken Taylor Swift's heart in 27 seconds but he didn't break her fashion sense. Here she is wearing French Connection's "Fast Tallulah" skirt. Taylor wore a black turtleneck to complete the outfit but there's also a dress version that alleviates the need to mix and match :)

"Fast Tallulah" skirt $148 now $129.99

Fashion Matches: Best Finds from This Week's Arrivals

Some may call me a shopaholic, some just say I have too much time on my hands... either way, I shouldn't be the only one to benefit from my hours of scouring the internet, so here are some finds from this weeks new arrivals :) I should mention I'm planning on making this a weekly entry so check back next week to see what's new.

I saw this dress in person at Saks the other day. It has a great silky feel to it which makes it perfect for day and night. As with most Marc Jacobs dresses it is unique and you will definitely stand out in a crowd!

In keeping with the geometric theme this is a maxi dress from Diane von Furstenburg. The touch of yellow brings just the right amount of personality. The shape has the added benefit of fitting almost any body type. No need to worry about hips or abs with this dress :)

You'll be ready to sail the seas in Theory's nautical sweater. The ruching on the side make this a flirty alternative to the myriad of striped sweaters in stores now.

Theory "Cathlein" Steady Sweater $255

"The City" Fashion Inspired Recap

Cue the drum roll please...on this episode of "The City" Jay decides it's time to make it official, he's accepting his sad fate and becoming Whitney's boyfriend. I hate to ruin this for you Jay but we knew this all along considering you're in the opening credits of the show :)

The great editors at MTV wanted to make it seem like Jay was making his decision out of the noble reasons of jealousy. If only Jay waited till the show premiered and suffered through those boring lunch dates as we have, his jealous rage would surely subside...Alas, Jay did not have such an option, and so in a heart to heart with his best mate he declares that Whitney "is a keeper". Of course she's a keeper! You're getting free publicity for you and your band while getting paid to do absolutely nothing!!! I'd kill for such a gig. In fact if you ever change your mind, I'm willing to pull a Lindsay Lohan and turn bi just to be Whitney's new hot girlfriend...ok I'm kidding...but seriously...

Since this is a fashion blog after all I'm obliged to comment on Whitney's outfits. The one look that really stood out was the white blazer she wore during her dinner with Jay at Los Dados. It looks like this trend will continue into this year. Here's a little preview of what's to come:

Golden Globes Fashion!

The stars dressed up in their finest to celebrate the best films of 2008! I wonder how many celebs were styled by Rachel Zoe, and will we get to see all the raucous on a new season of her Bravo show?

If last years awards were all about the jewel tones, this year the trend is ethereal gowns in various shades of cream (or vanilla as Ryan Seacrest labeled it). Angelina Jolie, Vanessa Hudgens, Penelope Cruz, Kate Beckinsale, Sandra Bullock and the list goes on, were all gracefully gliding down the red carpet in their light and airy concoctions.

Sandra Bullock in Dior

Kate Beckinsale

Vanessa Hudgens in Alberta Ferretti

Penelope Cruz

Angelina Jolie in Versace

My favorite dresses of the night however were the risk takers. Eva Mendes was the quintessential movie star of the night in her Dior gown and turquoise necklace. Jennifer Lopez's sexy gown was reminiscent of her Versace gown at the Grammy's that shocked and awed. The golden dress complimented her golden glow. There were very few stars that disappointed this year but I definitely have to mention Renee Zellweger. Usually so safe, this time Renee wore a mermaid gown with a sheer top that left me confused...

As always, leave a comment and let me know what you think :)

Stunning!

Eva Mendes in Dior, Van Cleef & Arpels necklace

Jennifer Lopez in Marchesa

Olivia Wilde in Reem Acra

Drew Barrymore in Dior (stunning minus the hair :)

Eva Longoria-Parker in Reem Acra

Honorable mentions!

Miley Cyrus in Marchesa

Megan Fox in Ralph Lauren

America Ferrera in Oscar de la Renta

Hayden Panettiere in Ferre

Not so stunning...

Renee Zellweger in Carolina Herrera

Debra Messing in Vera Wang

Heidi Klum

Cameron Diaz in Chanel
