Fashion Trends: The Boyfriend Jacket

The boyfriend jacket (or blazer) is a big trend this season. Now you don't have to steal your boyfriend's jacket to protect you from the cold. It's also a great way to tone down a super sexy dress underneath as Marisa Tomei and Lindsay Lohan chose to do (Marisa is wearing an Alexander Wang goddess dress while Lindsay is wearing a colorblock mini by the same designer).

What I like about the jackets here is the white cuff on the sleeves. It really adds a feminine touch to an otherwise very masculine, boxy cut.

Celeb Closet: what celebrities are wearing!

Want to steal a look from a celeb closet? What is young hollywood wearing these days? Here are three looks that you can copy from Diane Kruger, Vanessa Hudgens and Ginnifer Goodwin. Diane Kruger is on the Alexander Wang bandwagon, Vanessa Hudgens is rocking the romper trend and Ginnifer Goodwin is wearing a designer stylists are turning to for movie premieres - Camilla and Marc.

First up is Diane Kruger in Alexander Wang. She's one of several celebs, Lindsay Lohan among them, that have chosen this color block mini for a night out. It looks great with a pair of black tights but will also look fantastic during the summer with sexy stilettos.

Alexander Wang Stretch Mesh Combo dress $795
update: I've also seen it on Dasha Zhukova, it's quite the dress of the moment!

Vanessa Hudgens is wearing a floral romper by Rebecca Taylor. Jumpers are a huge trend right now and there are many to choose from but this one stands out thanks to its print. I've seen it in person and I must say it really grabs your attention while giving off a fun and very girly vibe.

Rebecca Taylor Spring Blossom jumper $345
update: While this gorgeous jumper is sold out at bloomingdales it is still available in pink on net-a-porter.com and ronherman.com in a couple of sizes, and in blue on shopsheboutique.com. Grab it while you can!

Last but certainly not least is Ginnifer Goodwin in this Camilla and Marc creation. The dress has lots of beautiful detail so its important to not over accessorize. If Camilla and Marc sounds familiar its the same designer that Kristen Stewart wore to one of the many Twilight premiers she's gone to (I posted a skirt with the same print earlier this week). I have a feeling this is going to become one of my favorite designers!

Fashion Matches: Best Finds from This Week's Arrivals

There is so much to be happy about this week. For one, if you're a fan of the striped Camilla and Marc dress that was worn by both Kristen Stewart and Eliza Dushku, it has made its way to stores in a skirt version. If that wasn't enough Rag & Bone is capitalizing on the success of last years peasant dress for our benefit. Without further ado, here's the best from this weeks arrivals!

This is possibly the most adorable bubble dress I have ever seen. It's silk and has a great ease about it.

This Camilla and Marc skirt is perfect for either day or night. It's a creative spin on the nautical theme with diagonal and horizontal stripes battling it out.

I've mentioned Rag & Bone's peasant dress several times on this blog, and as if in answer Rag & Bone have come up with the Tunis dress, the peasant dress' more sophisticated cousin. It's still short, sexy and very comfortable but this time in a darker color palette.

Plaid is everywhere this year and Elizabeth and James have transitioned it to the summer by cutting off the long sleeves. Now we can all look like stylish lumberjacks all year round! Like all Elizabeth and James shirts it's cinched at the waist to create a more fitted look.

Paris Fashion Week Fall 2009: Part II

For Part II of Paris Fashion Week there are designs from Balenciaga, Christian Dior, Alexander McQueen, Nina Ricci, Stella McCartney, and Valentino. For the rest check out Part I.

Balenciaga
The colors, the patterns, the shoulder pads, all seemed to be inspired directly from the eighty's. I liked the idea of the silky skirts like the one below but they made the super skinny models seem like they have wide hips, a feature I prefer not to emphasize.

Christian Dior
It was a very lady-like,delicate collection. The color palate was very bright for fall with pinks, reds, purples and yellows. It was a solid collection but nothing that took your breath away.

Stella McCartney
Stella McCartney's collection was youthful, very wearable, with lots of leather tights that we've seen on too many runways to count.

Alexander McQueen
Alexander McQueen's collection was theatrical and at times borderline scary. The hounds tooth coat was fit for Cruella De Vil and the black feather gown that closed the show looked like an angel from hell descended on earth. It will be interesting how the Japan influenced designs will appear in stores.

Nina Ricci
It is no wonder Reese Witherspoon has turned to designs by Nina Ricci time and time again. The beautifully sculpted designs are one of a kind.

Valentino
Valentino may have retired but the elegance and grace of his clothes has been carried through in the designs for the fall collection. It's not a youthful collection, but I could easily see Michelle Obama wearing something from this line.

Fashion Matches: Best Finds from This Week's Arrivals

This week is almost entirely devoted to funky fashion. I say "almost entirely" because I couldn't help but include a Joie tunic that appeals to the bohemian in me.
I can picture this tunic on Kate Hudson or Whitney from "The City", in fact she's worn Joie tunics in the past. It will be perfect with a pair of light colored jeans and to complete the look I'm picturing a braid a la Jessica Simpson.

Leave it to Marc Jacobs to create a dress that's really a sweatshirt over a skirt. Leave it to me to find it and love it! It's practically guaranteed to be the most comfortable dress you'll ever own.

Here's a watch with attitude. Plus with lightning bolts for the hour and minute hands maybe it'll give me the sense of urgency necessary never to be late for anything...ever...again...maybe ;)

These shoes put a smile on my face. The colors are outrageously bright. The best part is they can add a bit of flavor to a dress, a pair of jeans, some short shorts.

The City Fashion Inspired Recap

"I Lost Myself In Us"

The setup: Whitney is not sure if the city is the right place for her

Side story: Allie and Adam drama

It's Fashion Week in the City and since London is a big market for Diane von Furstenberg either Whitney or Olivia is going to be nominated to become the London liaison, even getting the amazing opportunity to work in London. The London team is going to be in New York and the decision will be made. Obviously with Olivia taking credit for pulling the winning look for the Elle cover, she is a front runner. In other DVF news Whitney and Olivia are paired again to decide which accessories correspond to which looks in the fashion show.

Adam comes to visit Erin at work in what becomes the most heated argument the City has seen so far. Amidst all the cursing it becomes clear Adam doesn't appreciate Erin budding into his relationship with Allie, saying he doesn't actually sleep with the girls he's flirting with and pointing fingers at Erin who dates multiple guys at the same time. Needless to say Erin runs back to Allie to tell her the good news. With intentions of telling Adam off instead the scene at Il Bastardo turns into a love fest where both Adam and Allie declare their love for each other and decide to move back in together.

Back at DVF Olivia and Whitney are hard at work when Olivia asks Whitney why she's so sad. I'm not sure why Whitney still believes Olivia actually wants to hear the answer, but she tells Olivia that she and Jay broke up and the sympathetic friend that Olivia is, she tells Whit that talking about Jay at work is "incredibly immature". True, but backstabbing Whitney at work is the model of good behavior! Longing for her old work relationship Whit calls the wise Lauren, who gives some sage advice: focus on what you came to New York to do: work.

The Diane von Furstenberg fashion show is in full swing and Whitney and Olivia are backstage. They get to meet the rep from London and Olivia for the millionth time takes credit for the Elle cover. When Whit finally confronts her, she says has the audacity to say she did give credit and will be happy to give Whit more recognition, after which she runs off to kiss up to the guy from London. Guess who's getting the job? Not Whitney.

It's the post show party and Diane von Furstenberg comes to give Whitney some advice and says that absence is to love as wind is to fire, wind makes a big fire even stronger. Seems like Jay got the memo because he's calling Whitney to come outside, where he's standing, remarkably dressed up. He tells Whit that while he was away he realized he really loves her, with tears in his eyes he says he made a mistake. But it's "too little too late" for Whitney. She tells Jay what he told her just one episode ago: I need to be by myself and focus on work. Jay is left heartbroken in the middle of the street.

On to the fashion:

I've already posted the jacket that Whitney was wearing to the party at Diane von Furstenberg and there's a post for the Diane von Furstenberg fashion show.

We got to check in on Lauren this week and she was wearing Diane von Furstenberg as well!

Paris Fashion Week Fall 2009: Part I

I love Paris. It wasn't love at first sight, but now I know nothing beats checking out all the cute shops by Place des Vosges on a Sunday afternoon, or having steak tartare at 3am in a tiny cafe by Les Halles, or wandering by the Grand Palais where Karl Lagerfeld chose to show Chanel's fall collection. And now that I've stopped day dreaming here is a two part review of Paris Fashion Week. Get ready for short skirts, wild imagination and Parisian chic!

Chanel
There was something for everyone in this collection from Chanel. The ubiquitous tweed suit, knits, the cuff that united almost every look on the runway. My favorite was the pairing of a fitted jacket with a long skirt.

Giambittista Valli
It was a very bold collection from Giambattista Valli. His unique looks were seen last year on Jessica Beal, Victoria Beckham and Amy Adams wore him to the SAG awards. If you want to stand out why not wear a long cape? Or a dress of peacock feathers?

John Galliano
Wearable? No. But John Galliano's collection was definitely awe inspiring. It was a winter wonderland set in the Russian country side. There was tremendous detail with the patterns, embroidery and headdresses. It was not simply a modern take on traditional costumes but a vision of a world suspended in time.

Balmain
Super short, super sexy. That seemed to be the theme behind this Balmain collection. There was tons of leather and swarovski crystals, what more can a girl ask for?

RM by Roland Mouret
Roland Mouret's designs are amazingly structured. Anyone wearing his clothes automatically looks sophisticated and has a fantastic silhouette. This collection was more of the same, with muted colors for the fall. The only part I did not enjoy were the tights, which are on trend, but did not fit in with the rest of the collection.

Louis Vuitton
Elegant and whimsical are not an easy fit but Marc Jacobs make it work in this collection for Louis Vuitton. I loved the black dresses with bright colored sashes, the shape of the nude skirt and blouse below and the ballerina inspired high heels with bows at the ankle.

Miu Miu
Unlike the Prada collection in Milan, the softer side of Miuccia Prada came out in Miu Miu's collection. There were lots of coats and furs, and embroidered stockings which we've already seen in Doo.Ri's collection.
